Wayne, I notice you say that the BBC might take them down. I don't think that will happen because the show's host is the one who put them up.

Wow, the Stan Lee interview is amazing. He basically considers himself the sole creator but since it meant so much to Steve Ditko to be credited as co-creator, he's willing to call him a co-creator, even though he says that he could just as easily had someone else draw it.

I honestly don't know whose side to take in the matter. Part of me believes firmly that Ditko shouldn't just be considered, but firmly known to be the co-creator. After all, this isn't prose here. More than any other field of fiction, comics are a collaborative art. But at the same time, I can sorta understand Stan's point of view. Spider-Man was his baby; he thought up the idea of it and it felt real to him right from that moment--even before someone gave it physical form.

Interesting double blade. On the one hand, as the original person to design the characters, he deserves some (if not a lot) of credit. A lot of peope can create a good character, but that's useless if the character isn't presented right visually. On the other hand though, anyone who would give a character a long lasting major re design should then be partially credited.

I wish Ross had asked him exactly what concept he brought to the table. I've heard varying reports. Some say it was as simple as Lee wanting a "teenaged super-hero" or "bug-themed hero" and not much beyond that.

But I think he dug as much as he should have for this documentary, considering that it's about Ditko and not Ditko's reason for leaving Spider-Man. While still on the docu, I didn't realize that Doc Strange was such a cult icon among the hippie lot. I mean, I knew Ditko's illustrations were far out and groovy, maaaan, but to think that it actually reached the hippie culture? Who knew? (Well, maybe somebody, but not me)

Ya know, this long after it happens, I wouldn't be surprised of, honestly now, Lee wouldn't remember exactly what he said.

I wouldn't be surprised either.
Also: I really want to track down those Mr. A comics now.
