Link found on IMDBSo, now I'm curious. Are they doing an alternate timeline story, since Rogue was depowered, Magneto downpowered, and various returning characters (kinda) died? (closest to the spirit of the original story I'd guess) Or Will this be a story from between the original trilogy which we simply weren't told about? Or Are they simply sticking with comic book norms, where nobody stays dead? Or Is X 3 becoming discontinuity? Thoughts?

X3 and X-Men Origins: Wolverine should be considered invalid based on X-Men: First Class. But then again, supposedly, a lot of stuff from the first two should be considered invalid 'cause of First Class. I... just don't know anymore. I'm guessing that First Class sorta just restarts the whole thing, I suppose.

Yeah it's kind of all a mess but people always regain their powers and come back to life, so there are plenty of loopholes either way.

See, I get that, because I'm still considered a comics geek (Owner of the local comic shop has some fun stories about a lot of big character deaths). Will mainstream audiences buy that though?

Honestly I don't think casual viewers will remember. And since it's just one possible future of many, the timeline could've diverged at any point, which adds one more big loophole.

I got the impression that this was going to take place pre-The Last Stand...but the new Wolverine movie has been said to take place AFTER The Last Stand so...would they theoretically 'refresh' the orig trilogy by wiping out the third film, if the new Wolvie movie ties to that movie? Hmm.

You have to admit, these X-Men movies are probably the most authentic comic book adaptations ever. They're just as convoluted and dubiously inter-connected as the comics.

I'm sure with as many times as the Batman and the Superman movie franchises have been rebooted that mainstream audiences can handle a few discrepancies owing to X-Men reboots. It would be fun to see how the mainstream audience would react to a previous movie being heavily retconned, though! I like how you guys stopped talking about this in February to give me a chance to catch up. Thanks!
