Alright, I give. I do see a picture difference.
Still doesn't mean I like the new versions any better.
Aside the fact that they can only be played on Specific DVD players (or in case of Blu Ray, also PS3) they do NOT tend to come with the extras. All these lovely movies coming out on 2 disc DVD have next to none of the additional content on their High Def counterparts.
Gah. I hate it when new technology rips you off.

I didn't know extras usually weren't on the HD versions. That's very weird. And kinda lame.

I have yet to find a high Def DVD that comes in a 2 disc version. While i grant you most of disc two tends to be crap, some of the fun stuff is gone too. At least for Pirates of the Carribean they kept the bloopers.

That's rather dumb.

That is dumb. I hate more expensive crap like that. Regular DVDs are already expensive, and while going HD might look better, they're way to expensive. I guess it doesn't really matter anyway...you have to have a HD compatible tv to use them anyway, right?

I guess it's right up there with X-Men and and X-Men 1.5.
And for the 2nd part... technically, no, you can watch a high def DVD on a regular TV, just you won't notive the difference that much (and since you only REALLY notice the difference if you switch back and forth anyway...) Of course, if your regular tv is the pull knob kind from yesteryear, it makes no difference what so ever.

I am still waiting for a standard format to take the lead. I refuse to get anything until I know which format will win. Plus, I have yet to buy a new tv that would take advantage of higher resolution. Frankly, I still think HD tvs look odd somehow and besides, I have access to data projectors. I can project movies onto my wall, if I so desired.

Well, if you have a high quality projector, you should still see a difference. If, again, you keep switching back and forth.
So far, Blue ray is leading because more studios use it exclusively. Warner Brother's is the only one Stradeling the fence and putting out both.

Except that the porn industry went with HD-DVD. And they had gone with VHS instead of Beta, and look who won that one.

Hey, I'm not bothering with either for myself, so I don't care too much.
